Karl Malone was 40 years old when he stepped away from the NBA. Malone had played 19 seasons in the league, 18 of them with the Utah Jazz. His final season, after his 40th birthday, Malone joined the LA Lakers. He played in only 42 games that season averaging 13.2 PPG and 8.7 rebounds. That season was the first time Malone averaged less than 20 points in his entire career, but he also made his third Finals appearance. Though he still couldn’t win a ring, the Lakers lost to the Pistons 4-1.
