40 athletes who competed at the age of 40

[post_page_title]Ted Williams[/post_page_title]
The great Ted Williams played until he was 42 years old. The Boston Red Sox legend turned 40 midway through the 1958 season, and was still batting .328/.458/.584. During his final two seasons, both full seasons after his 40th, he added 167 hits, 88 runs and batted .287/.415/.540. As a lifelong Red Sox player, Williams never won a World Series title (they were in the midst of the Curse of the Bambino), but he did have two MVP titles, two Triple Crowns, was a 19-time All Star and 6-time Batting champ. He was an All Star during those final two years.
