These were dark years for the Chicago White Sox. In 1919, several White Sox players conspired with betters to purposely lose the World Series against the Cincinnati Reds, in what became one of the biggest scandals in MLB history. Eight players were banned for life from the Sox and gambling rules came into effect. It is believed the White Sox were cursed after banning the eight players, and some point out that it took 85 years for the Sox to win another World Series – a decade for each player.
