Darya Klishina was started her athletic career in volleyball before she decided that she wanted to move over to track and field, where she fell in love with the long jump. She started by competing in the 2007 World Youth Championships where she came in first place, and quickly became a force to be reckoned with over her next several competitions. Klishina would make one of her best jumps at the 2013 European U23 Championships, jumping just over 23 feet.
