Maria del Mar Jover was born in the coastal Spanish city of Alicante and has been competing in the long jump for years. She went off to her first ever international competition in 2003, where she represented Spain in the World Youth Championships, finishing in 10th place. Mar Jover then competed in the European Youth Olympic Festival, placing fourth in the long jump and paving the way for the rest of her career.
