Diann Roffe originally hails from Warsaw, New York in the far west of the state. She got interested in skiing at the Brantling Ski Center in nearby Rochester, New York. However, despite the fact that this was a small ski center, she was able to make a big name for herself, going off to the World Cup in Lake Placid in 1984 and finishing eighth, and the going to the World Championships in Bormio, Italy and winning a gold medal in the giant slalom.
