Debbie Armstrong was one of the most noteworthy women skiers in the history of women’s skiing in the United States. Born in Salem, Oregon but raised in Seattle, Washington, Armstrong was always a sporty person, playing both basketball as well as soccer on top of skiing. She eventually was picked to become a part of the United States Women’s Olympic Ski team, and went off to compete in the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, where she won gold in the giant slalom.
