This picture taken of Florence Owens Thompson in 1936 became the image for the Great Depression. Thompson had been picking vegetables to try and scrape a living for her family and was on her way to another field to pick more vegetables when the family car broke down.
She set up a temporary camp while her husband and some of her seven children went to get the car repaired. A photographer happened to be passing and took the famous shot that perfectly captured the mood of the country.
