[post_page_title]Anti-racism salute – 1968[/post_page_title]
The 1968 Summer Olympics were held in Mexico City, Mexico. The city was the location of this famous picture of American athletes, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, performing the Black Power salute.
The Americans had won gold and bronze medals in the 200m sprint and raised their fists in the air wearing black gloves as a salute to human rights. Australian sprinter, Peter Norman, wore a human rights badge as a sign of solidarity with the American athletes.
