[post_page_title]Defiance – 1941[/post_page_title]
Heinrich Himmler was walking through a concentration camp in Minsk, Belarus during 1941. Himmler was one of the leading figures of the German Third Reich, and it took a brave person to stand and look into his eyes. This circumstance required even more bravery as the man staring him down was a Jew who stood up the imposing military leader.
This image of a man standing for what is right became a symbol of defiance during the Second World War. It is estimated that around 6 million Jews perished in the concentration camps between 1941 and 1945. This figure was thought to be around two-thirds of the European population of Jews.
