The moment a German passenger airship caught fire was caught on camera in 1937. It was attempting to dock to this mast in New Jersey, USA, when disaster struck. 35 people on board died, and miraculously 62 people managed to survive the flaming wreckage.

The reason why the airship burst into flames is not known, although many suspect that some spark of electricity caused the ignition. Confidence in the giant airships was lost after the event, and soon airships would become a transport of the past.
